DON’T LOOSE THE MEMORIES DIGITIZING MY EXPERIENCE
LOCALLY DO IT NOW PRICING: PHOTOS

DON’T LOOSE YOUR PHOTO MEMORIES:  How important are your photo memories to you?  Photos, slides and negatives fade and deteriorate over time.  Don’t let your precious memories fade into oblivion!  Have your photos and slides scanned digitally, and possibly even restored.

DIGITIZING:  Scanning your photos at high resolution allows you to:

bullet Preserve those memories before they fade and deteriorate beyond recognition
bullet Share those old memories with all of your family and friends immediately (via email, text, etc).
bullet Backup those memories (digitally) in the event of a disaster (fire, flood, burglary)

LOCALLY:  Well, hopefully having a friend/professional colleague/acquaintance locally, and is willing to assist you in digitizing your old photos and slides before they deteriorate too much, takes away those concerns.  Especially for you in the Vancouver lower mainland, where you can drop off and pick up your photos.  [For other areas, we will require that you use a package delivery service (Canada Post Xpress Post, UPS, FedEx, etc.) to ensure the security of your photos.]

There are quite a few professional services you can use, but what is holding you back?  Sending your precious memories to strangers?

DO IT NOW:  Some of you already know you need to do this.  Many of you may have had this project on your “To Do” list for a long time now.  There is no time like now to have someone else (me) help you out with this goal!

PRICING:

PHOTOS:  High resolution (600 dpi) is my default scanning resolution.

                    1-50             $0.50 CAD/USD each

                    51-199          $0.40 each

                    200+             $0.35 each

I can also scan at Standard resolution (300 dpi) or Very High resolution (1200 dpi).

For Standard resolution, take a 30% discount off the above pricing.

For Very High resolution, add 30% to the above pricing.

Photos in albums MAY be able to be scanned in the albums, depending on if the pages can be removed or scanned on a flatbed scanner.  The only other charges would be the cost of a thumbnail drive (just a few $, if required) and return shipping (UPS, FedEx, etc.), if required.

SLIDES/NEGATIVES:       1 – 50           $0.75 CAD/USD each (per image)

                                        51-199                    0.60 each

                    200+             0.55 each

DELIVERY:  I can send you your digitized memories via Dropbox or WeTransfer.  In addition, I can put all of your scanned photos on a thumbdrive or CD/DVD to return with your original photos.

MY EXPERIENCE:  Although I have taken most of my photos digitally for about 20 years now, I understand the sentimental value, use and preservation value of hard copy photos and slides.  My project over the past 2 years, was to digitize all of my photo albums and boxes of photos. I accomplished that during the 2020 Covid year.  It has been an amazing journey to preserve these images and relive some amazing memories.  I have enjoyed sharing these old memories with long-time friends also.

MY SCANNERS:

I have an Epson NX420 printer/flat bed scanner for scanning most hard copy photos.

I have a Magnasonic All-in-One 22 MP (FS71) slide/negative scanner for scanning slides and negatives.

UNDERSTANDING PHOTO RESOLUTION:

Photo – Standard Resolution - 300 dpi (dots per inch)– A 4x6” print scanned at 300 dpi could be easily reprinted as a 4x6” from the digital scan.

High Resolution - 600 dpi – A 4x6” print scanned at 600 dpi could be easily reprinted as a 8x12” enlargement from the digital scan.  I generally scan at 600 dpi

Very High Resolution - 1200 dpi - A 4x6” print scanned at 1200 dpi could be easily reprinted as a 16x24” enlargement from the digital scan.

Of course the quality of the final print would depend on the quality of the original slide

Digital Format – Scanned photo images could be saved in various formats, but JPG is the standard and recommended format.

Slide Resolution – Magnasonic All-in-One 22 MP (FS71) slide/negative scanner –

          I can scan 35mm/126/110/Super 8 film negatives & 135/126/110 slides.

Scans at 4000x3200 dpi.  35 mm slides/negatives are saved at 5760x3840 pixels (4000x3200 dpi).

Images are saved as JPG (JPEG) files.

This would print a hard copy print up to 12”x10” at standard 300 dpi printing.

Of course, the quality of the final print would depend on the quality of the original slide.

SUGGESTIONS:  I’ll provide some free suggestions as to how to preserve your digital memories and keep them as safe - both at home and online.

OTHER SERVICES:  Photo editing services are also available for restoring or correcting digital scans of special photos or slides.
